The merciful man doeth good to his own soul: but he that is cruel troubleth his own flesh.
It is in man’s nature to seek to repay any and all wrongs or slights done to them by others. Mankind without God is stuck on a never ending carousel of vengeance, payback, and destruction. As one man does to them, so they will do to them in kind.
Being merciful to others that have done us wrong breaks the cycle of harmful repayment. Not only does it show forth Godly patience and mercy, but it helps ensure that our fellow man will in kind leave us in peace. If we want peace with our fellow man we must take the first step to earning it.
What about you? Do you seek peace with your fellow man, or are you an agent of merciliness?
